Eddie Vedder covers Tom Petty at Oscars during ABC/Craig Sjodin Eddie Vedder made a surprise appearance on the Oscars Sunday night. The Pearl Jam frontman performed during the awards show's annual "In Memoriam" segment, which honors the members of Hollywood who died over the past year. For his performance, Vedder played a quiet, intimate cover of late rock legend Tom Petty's 1999 song "Room at the Top." Sunday's Oscars also included and appearance from St. Vincent, who played alongside indie folk artist Sufjan Stevens during his performance of his Best Original Song nominee "Mystery of Love," which he wrote for the film Call Me By Your Name. Additionally, Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood's soundtrack for the Paul Thomas Anderson film Phantom Thread was nominated for Best Original Score, but it lost out to The Shape of Water, which also won Best Picture.
