Mastodon releasing "Stairway to Heaven" cover digitally in May
For last weekend’s Record Store Day, Mastodon released an exclusive 10-inch single featuring a cover Led Zeppelin‘s “Stairway to Heaven.” If you weren’t able to snag one of the 1,500 copies, you’re in luck: the Atlanta metallers are releasing a digital version of the single May 17.
Mastodon recorded the “Stairway” cover in honor of their late manager Nick John, who died last September of pancreatic cancer. The single’s B-side is a live edition of the Zeppelin classic, recorded at John’s funeral.
Proceeds from the single will be donated to the Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Mastodon will launch a tour with Coheed and Cambria May 28 in Louisville, Kentucky. During the trek, the band will be playing their 2009 album Crack the Skye in full in honor of its 10th anniversary.
