Watch Metallica cover Robert Trujillo in silly string to celebrate bassist’s birthday

Watch Metallica cover Robert Trujillo in silly string to celebrate bassist's birthdayABC/Randy Holmes Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo turns 54 today, and the rest of the metal legends surprised him with a messy birthday celebration during their show in Charlotte Monday night. As Trujillo was leaving the stage, his band mates and crew sprayed him with an outrageous amount of silly string. Frontman James Hetfield then led the arena in a rendition of "Happy Birthday" while a very colorful Trujillo stumbled around the stage. Metallica posted video of the birthday celebration on their Twitter. In the background, you can see drummer Lars Ulrich put on a hooded robe so as to not get hit with any stray silliness. Metallica is currently touring the U.S. behind the band's latest album, 2016's Hardwired...to Self-Destruct. The outing continues Thursday night in Philadelphia. Copyright © 2018, ABC Radio.
